Our mission is to infuse the social justice teachings of Scripture and Tradition within all the St. Benedict community's prayer, study, worship, and outreach--with an emphasis on assisting all our members in bringing God's justice and love into their daily lives.

Once a month, St. Ben's coordinates, sponsors, and serves a dinner at Churches United in Ministry (the second Tuesday each month).
Please call the office if you would like to coordinate, donate food, or volunteer to cook and/or serve one month. We would love to have you, your family, or your parish group help serve the needy of Duluth.

The Social Concerns Committee has arranged to prepare and serve lunch in the Damiano Center soup kitchen the 5th Wednesdays of the month.
All St. Benedict's parishioners are encouraged to volunteer. We prepare and serve lunch from 8:30-1:30pm. If you are interested in serving a full or partial shift, contact John and Jolane Sundstrom at 724-6030 or

Every first Sunday of the month is Food Shelf Sunday. You may bring donations to the Food Shelf box in the Gathering Space. Volunteers will bring your food to the Duluth CHUM Emergency Food Shelf. You may bring donations any time the church is open, too!

We created the Pro-Life subcommittee to organize " 12 Months for Life" at St. Benedict's. 12 Months for Life focuses on what different parish groups are doing to help the pro-life movement. Here are the upcoming months for 2009, which group is having an event, and the contact for the group.
***April: Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll fundaraising campaign for people with developmental disabilities (Chuck Stoetzel)
***May: Carnation Sale for Birthright (Meg Kearns)
***June: The choir prayed a rosary a day for life (Sandra Eller)
***July: Social Concerns Pro-Life Subcommittee held an Office Supply Drive for the Lake Superior Life Care Center (Theresa Ganser)
***August: Prayer Shawl Ministry is donating a two Prayer Shawl baby afghans to the Lake Superior Life Care Center (Wanda Birnbaum)
***September: Pastoral Council (John Specht)
***October: Respect Life Month (Fr. Eric)
***November: Religious Ed – Youth Group - The Edge program high school students will pray a rosary for life together on November 18 and can take a rosary to pray for life at home (Nic Davidson)
***December: Religious Ed – K-5 & Pre-school will collect items for the Bethany Crisis Nursery for their Advent project (Colleen McDonald)

"JustFaith" is a thirty-week program focused on understanding and addressing the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable people in our world. The program included weekly meetings, regular readings, retreats, and immersion experiences. JustFaith began in September 2008 at St. Benedict's and ended May 11th, 2009.
